Free Medical Camp and Health Awareness Programme

The programme was held on 09.03.2025. S. Anto Vinoth Kumar, the social work trainee from Nanjil Catholic College of Arts and Science, Kaliyakkavilai started the programme around 9 am and finished at 2 pm. The trainee wished all the participants for attending for the awareness programme in the meeting hall at St. Vincent De Paul Primary School Campus, Periyavilai, Near Manavazhakurichi. 

The Inaugural session of them programme started with prayer song. Mrs. Joseph Densly, the secretary of parish counsel gave welcome address for the programme. She welcomed the chief guests Rev. Fr. Charles, Director of St. Xavier’s Multi Speciality Hospital, Chunkankadai, and Dr. Swetha, Dr. Pooja and Dr. Preyarna, from St. John’s Medical College, Bengaluru, Rev. Fr. Francis De Sales, Parish Priest, Periyavilai, Dr. Naveen Sathish from St. Xavier’s Multi Speciality Hospital, Chunkankadai, Mrs. S. Mary Pelsit, HOD of Dept. of Social Work, Nanjil Catholic College of Arts and Science, Kaliyakkavilai. Mrs. D. Cathrine Mary, Director of Gold King Charitable Trust, Kurusady and community people.

Rev. Fr. Francis De Sales, Mrs. S. Mary Pelsit and Mrs. D. Cathrine Mary gave felicitation. They all spoke about the cancer screening & medical camp and then congratulated the trainee for conducting the programme successfully.

Dr. Naveen Sathish from St. Xavier’s Multi Speciality Hospital, Chunkankadai and Dr. Swetha, Dr. Pooja and Dr. Preyarna, from St. John’s Medical College, Bengaluru spoke about cancer disease and prevention measures. During the programme, the president of the programme Rev. Fr. Charles, Director of St. Xavier’s Multi Speciality Hospital, Chunkankadai explained about importance of cancer screening test. 

Then S. Anto Vinoth Kumar, the social work trainee from Nanjil Catholic College of Arts and Science, Kaliyakkavilai gave vote of thanks for the persons who all came for the inaugural session of the programme. 

After the inaugural session, the medical camp started with registration, diabetic blood test, BP test and weight measurement. The doctors conducted medical check-ups, including cancer screening tests such that offer specialized tests for cancer detection, including prostate cancer screening for men and Pap smear and Serum PSA tests for women

Provide counselling and awareness sessions on cancer prevention and early detection. Free medicines which prescribed by the doctor were provided by the nurses. The doctors also provide referral services for participants who require further medical attention. Collected feedback from participants, volunteers, and medical professionals. Finally, the Free cancer screening and medical check-up camp was finished around 2 pm. 

Out Come

104 Community people got medical check-up and 33 participants got medical support and early detection of cancer screening test. All participants received information about awareness on cancer prevention. Most of the participants got free medicine. Through this free cancer screening camp 20 persons identified as early cancer detected persons. So, these persons received medical treatment for cancer. 

Feedback

Participants expressed their gratitude for organizing medical camp. The program’s community-based approach, collaboration with healthcare providers, and focus on health education and awareness were strengths that contributed to its success.

Conclusion

The free medical camp was a successful initiative that provided access to quality healthcare and early cancer screening to the local population. The camp promoted awareness about preventive healthcare practices and identified high-risk individuals who require further medical attention. We look forward to continuing such initiatives and strengthening community health initiatives through collaborative efforts. The experience highlighted the need for sustainable and community-driven health programs that address the specific needs and priorities of the community.
