Case Study
Introduction: A married 49-year-old woman facing emotional, social, and economic challenges due to her husband’s mental illness and alcoholism. She also suffered emotional distress due to the delay in completing her new home, which was constructed with support from government and women’s welfare initiatives.
Family history: She revealed the family history that her father died in 2010 and her mother is living with her brother house. She has only one brother. She married her husband 19 year ago in 2002. Her husband is an alcohol addicted person, and her husband also has mental illness. She has two girl children. First child is studying eleventh std and second child is studying tenth std. Her family is a nuclear family.
Educational History: She Completed 10th standard.
Economical History: She Works as a daily wage laborer (coolie), earning Rs. 5,000 per month. The income is inadequate for family needs. She received financial support from the Government and the Women Commission to construct a house. She unable to afford painting work for the new house due to financial constraints.
Social background: She faces difficulties in social participation due to her husband’s condition. She misses family functions but maintains cordial relationships with friends and the community. She known for a hardworking attitude and responsibility in both domestic and work life.
Psychosocial diagnosis: She had emotional distress due to husband’s mental health and substance abuse, Incomplete painting work delaying their move into a new house and ongoing financial struggles.
Counseling Services: Counseling Service was provided by GK Trust for her to come out from stress, worries & sad and motivated her to support the husband in the treatment process of mental illness of her husband.
She accepted all her limitation. A social work trainee discussed with the director on 11.02.2025 regarding the need of her. The director accepted to do financial support for her in order to do painting work in her house. In the same day, she received financial support from the director of Gold King Charitable Trust to do painting. So, she was happy and felt stressless.
Present Situation (Outcome): At present, she completed the painting work in her new house with support of Gold King Charitable Trust and moved into her new house with her husband and children. Now she felt happy and got stress free from her worries. She is actively taking care of her husband and supports her children’s education.
