Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board (TNUHDB) and Gold King Charitable Trust jointly organized health awareness programme and free medical camp in collaboration with Gerdi Gutperle Agasthiyar Muni Children & Maternity Hospital, Vellamadam, Nagercoil, for children and women in New Parakinkal community at Paalkulam on 18.03.2023 from 10.15 am to 4.30 pm.

Mr. Raja Gopal (Assistant Executive Engineer) as chief guest of the programme, Mrs. Jenefa Sweetlin (MBBS), Medical Officer of Gerdi Gutperle Agasthiyar Muni Children & Maternity Hospital, Vellamadam as resource person of the programme, Nagercoil, 4 team members of Gerdi Gutperle Agasthiyar Muni Children & Maternity Hospital, Vellamadam, Mr. Vimel (Junior Engineering), Mr. Jeya Chandran (Community Officer), Mrs. Agnes Jerome (Community Development Officer of TNUHDB, Thirunelveli Division). Mr. Immanuel (Community Participatory Assistant), Ms. Cathrine Mary (Director of Gold King Charitable Trust), Mr. Santhosh and Mr. Krish (Volunteers of Gold King Charitable Trust), Mr. Selva Kumar (Community President), community children and their parents participated during the programme.

The children came with their parent and registered their name. The medical team collected basic details and did developmental assessment, physical examination, weight and growth check-up. After the physical body check-up, the details were filled in a child screening form. Then the child with mother met the doctor and received final suggestions from the doctor. Some children received medicine from the medical camp and some children were referred to Gerdi Gutperle Agasthiyar Muni Children & Maternity Hospital at Vellamadam. After the lunch, some women who were in need of emergency medical support, met the doctor and got treatment for the illness. Finally, the medical camp came to an end around 4.30 pm.

Feedback meeting

The Doctor, Medical Team, Community Participatory Assistant, Director & Volunteers of GK Trust and community members had the feedback meeting at 4.40 pm in New Parakinkal. The doctor explained that Some children were identified as children with malnutrition. Their parents were able to buy snacks, but they didn’t have the awareness in order to buy health foods. So, the doctor suggested us to organize programme on balance diet food and educate the parents in order to practice the healthy food habits. Community Participatory Assistant said thanks to the medical team and volunteers of the GK Trust. 

Outcome

54 children participated in the medical camp and 10 women received emergency medical support from the medical camp. The community members suggested to arrange general medical camp for adults. 8 children were identified by the medical team as malnutrition children. From the Gold King Charitable, these 8 children received nutritious support.
